Hello and welcome to Trumatter! How have you been and how’s your day looking? It’s a grey, rainy morning up here in Mumbai but I’ve got the sun shining on my breakfast table: come say hi to our new table-friends Zespri SunGold Kiwifruit, so generously sent in by Zespri India and team, who just launched in India.

If you are not a breakfast person and cannot get in your system a-toast-in-the-name-of-god in the morning, this should do the trick happily. And let me tell you, it tastes insanely tasty whether in the smoothie recipe I am about to share or on its own. We’ve got a lot going, follow on!

When the good guys from Zespri India, asked me if I would want to taste their SunGold Kiwifruits, which they just launched in India, I lapped up the opportunity like a monkey would a banana. Kiwis are one of my favorite fruits and New Zealand Kiwifruits are one of the best in the world: I remember having a bunch from En-Zed while still staying in the hills and the fruit just made me its’. You know, sometimes, you choose the fruit. Sometimes, the fruit chooses you {ya, ya, like a Japanese sword} and kiwis definitely chose me. You can clearly understand my excitement when this came along.

Of course you have heard about Zespri now, haven’t you? Well, just in case you haven’t, Zespri SunGold Kiwifruit is clearly New Zealand’s national trump-card against all fruit proud countries. Born in 1996, Zespri has been a leading player in exporting delicious Kiwifruits to the world and it’s now available in India. You can choose from a range of plain, green or organic SunGold Kiwifruits {a special variety made by crossing seeds from China and NZ; a golden fleshed, kiwifruit reminiscent of sunshine, which is now known as SunGold variety}. And just incase you are wondering if its good enough, Pooja Makhija & Chef Ranveer Brar and Ms Saina Nehwal have already vouched for it {brand ambassadors and all}

Straight from the farm; these kiwifruits are delicious, luscious, glows bronze from outside {Tip: a good kiwifruit always has a smooth bronze outer finish} and radiates goodness from within. It’s tangy-sweet taste makes it the perfect refreshment on a sultry summer day while its earthy-sweet flavour makes it just about perfect for a summer-salad ingredient. And then again, if you want a quick fix brekky and you want the mixer to do all the work, simply toss a few into a mixer, throw in some blue berries, a bit of lemon, a scoop of vanilla yogurt and give it a good blitz. A nutritious breakfast in a jar is ready to be savored.

Believe me you; I am a tricky smoothie drinker. I’d just go, “no, this smells”, “no, this is grass juice” or “no, this is like liquid sawdust”. But this got me going! It’s perfectly tart, sweet and packed with flavour. But then again, it’s no fruit to be mistaken for just a tasty fruit. Zespri SunGold is a great source of vitamin C, dietary fibre, folate and other minerals and antioxidants, making it one of the most nutrient-dense fruits available. As a matter of fact Zespri Kiwifruits are low in fat, is a toxin fighter and has as much or more vitamin C than 3 lemons! You can see a whole range of benefits here.

I bet my mum would have advised these over tasteless gourd, had she known. Maybe I should call her and tell her that there is now a tasty alternative to eating healthy and its reason enough to include kiwifruits in your breakfast. And yes, if you must, trust in the best!! Plus, SunGold kiwifruit is cheaper than an imported apple anyway! No more myths that Kiwifruits are expensive.

So, how did I incorporate it? In a lovely, fragrant power smoothie that gives you a whole lot of nutrients, keeps you full and is good to sip on. I love yogurt based smoothies and kiwifruit-vanilla is a classic pairing, so this smoothie involves yogurt. If you want to exclude yogurt, try milk and chuck lemons. To the lovely breakfast-smoothie recipe then!

You’ll need:

¾ Cup Plain or Vanilla Yogurt
1 Zespri SunGold Kiwifruit
1/2 Cup Frozen Blueberries
1/2 tsp lemon
1/8 Cup Milk

Give it a good blitz and you are ready to snack!
