Howdie ladies and gentlemen? Has your life gotten super busy like mine? So busy that I couldn’t even afford to do like 1 post a day? Or worse 3 posts a week? Anyway, no more ranting for next week I’ll have something fabulous to share with you. And by fabulous, I mean fabulous! Till then a lil on the kitchen front.
I know most of you are used to sprawling kitchens with kitchen island and pendant lights and breakfast area and cabinets and etcetera. So was I people, so was I till I got a job and started living independently on one of the most expensive cities of the world on rent. And by far I have only been given 6′ by 4′ kitchens to totter in.
I have already talked about the limitations of a rented place and it needs no more telling. Instead I’ll quickly jump to a 2 minute solution that you can execute very well in a rented house without causing any permanent change or “damage” as owners like to call, to the house.
I had this kitchen storage space without doors which looked really, really ugly. God knows why anyone would leave a storage cabinet without doors but hey that’s India. Nevertheless, since its not my house I decided to hide it in the most old school and cost expensive way possible.
I ripped an old bedsheet according to the measurement of the storage and hand printed some star shaped something. Once it dried, I stitched the top (2″ with hem) and the bottom. My storage skirt (may I call it?) was practically complete.
Next, I measured the length and drilled two hooks on either side of the storage, gathered the drape in a curtain spring and strung it to the hook.
I also realized that an added layer to it will look good. But how do you drill granite on your own? Solution? Fabric glue. The top part is glued to the open granite to complete the look.
1. Fabric glue is water proof
2. You can remove the fabric with warm water when you want to without a trace.
Smart eh?
Next, I sewed a kitchen curtain in a similar but floral motif and I was good to go.
The fridge was already painted with chalkboard.
All it took me was 20 minutes + 1 hour and I was ready with a kitchen that more or less welcomes me in the morning than what it was when i moved in.
The Before
I decided to play with black and white as it seemed to me the most promising and safe.
I hand printed all the drapes- the kitchen window one with soda bottle..if you care a peep!
So yeah, there we have it!
Like, no?
